Frederick Lee is celebrated for creating wedding and evening gowns of ultimate glamour. Flamboyance, purity of structures and the use of non-traditional ornaments are the elements that have made this self-taught couturier one of Singapore’s most sought after designers.  For 18 years, he has presented a glamorous and futuristic vision, not only with the use of unconventional materials but also by his extraordinary and challenging ideas. Yumi Katsura Show at Couture Fashion Week in Bangkok

Yumi Katsura is one of Japan’s and the world’s most celebrated and prolific designers. Praised as “The Missionary of Bridal,” her magnificent bridal creations are considered original and innovative masterpieces. Her elegant style is known for rich embellishment, luxurious fabric and masterful techniques.  She has been a pioneer of Japanese bridal fashion and has continued to stand at the forefront of the wedding fashion industry. Her unique silhouette inspired by the 19th-century kimono launched in 1981 is still recognized today as perfection in style that appeals to brides around the world.  

Yumi Katsura opened her first bridal salon in 1964 in Tokyo and the following year showcased the first bridal collection show ever held in Japan.  In 2005 she opened her bridal boutique in Paris and in 2006 opened the Yumi Katsura Bridal House in New York. Today, her business has expanded across Japan with more than 75 franchise shops. She has also opened bridal shops in major cities in China and in Los Angeles, in the U.S.

Theatre Fashion House Show at Couture Fashion Week at Siam Paragon

Designer Sirichai Daharanont presented an enigmatic collection of unique handmade embroideries as legendary Thai fashion house Theatre took to the runway as the second show in Couture Fashion Week at Siam Paragon.  Theatre has been using exotic materials to create romantic, dramatic and fantasy clothing for men and women for more than 28 years.  This year's collection has been inspired by Renaissance night gowns and uses lace, silk and hand woven fabrics predominantly in white, black, gold and silver.

Couture Fashion Week Opens in Bangkok with a Lie Sang Bong Fashion Show

The four day Couture Fashion Week 2012 began in dramatic style on September 27th with an indoor thunder and lightning show.  Leading South Korean designer Lie Sang Bong started the festival with a show that incorporated much of what Bangkokians have seen and heard on the streets for the last few weeks, rumbling thunder and dramatic lightning flashes (see movie).


Lie Sang Bong is regarded by many as the "Korean Alexander McQueen" due to his outstanding style and vision.  He is one of seven top Asian fashion gurus participating at the Royal Paragon Hall.


Other shows will feature Theatre, Yumi Katsura, Nagara by Citibank, Frederick Lee, Flynow and Christophe Josse.  But perhaps the most eagerly anticipated show is "The Queen of Thai Silk", a royal reception in which international designers will celebrate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 80th Anniversary by presenting their own silk designs.

Bangkok's first Korean Wine Dinner was held at the Pathumwan Princess Hotel on Wednesday September 19th, to celebrate the 16th Anniversary of the Kongju Korean Restaurant.  Sixteen dishes were prepared for the occasion by Senior Korean Cuisine Specialist Hanna Kim (above).

Untamed Artistry at Leapfrog, Ramada Encore Bangkok

                           Athima Tongloom with her two sculptures that are on display at Leapfrog

 

The artistically designed Leapfrog rooftop bar and restaurant has jumped at the chance to showpiece locally based talent with the opening of Untamed, an art exhibition by V64 Art Studio.  A world of colours has been created throughout the venue using the artworks of 10 outstanding artists.

The paintings, pottery and sculptures are a diverse mixture of abstract, landscape, nude and still life imagery, and will be on display for the next three months.

Artists featured are: Dusit Pimchangthong, Nitichai Chaiyasan, Anurak Namapai, Woravit Laokwansathit, Prapaipan Yantaporn, Wittiya Pised, Jitti Jumnianwai, Athima Tongloom, Cecê Nobre and Worrawat Chortubtim.
