Traces of Thought at V64 Art Studio in Bangkok

05.12.2012

Artist Sorayut Duangjai with his painting "A Brave Man"

Five contemporary Thai artists have joined forces to present a collection of their works entitled "Traces of Thought" at V64 Art Studio in Bangkok.

Each artist presents their own unique slant on life, giving the exhibition a wide range of styles, with different practices evident throughout.  From the resin technique sculpture collection “Beads” to the mixed media presentation “The Conversations Are Not Answers”, art for all tastes is here.

All five are art teachers at Rajamangala University of Technology.  The original idea to get them together was so that they could tell their personal stories through their distinctive individually crafted approaches.

The exhibition is the first to be held at the Gallery’s brand new “64 Gallery 2”, which was also opened on the same night: November 29th.

“Traces of Thought” will be on display until December 21st.

New Menu Delights Riverside Diners at Bangkok's Sambal Bar and Grill

30.11.2012

Cheg Mark Hannon with a starter selection from his new menu at Sambal Bar and Grill

New York native Mark Hannon has been busy revamping the menus at The Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Bangkok since his recent appointment, with Sambal Bar and Grill taking precedence.

Mark comes to Thailand via stints in Miami, Chicago, Australia and Dubai.  His father’s seafood restaurant proved to be his early inspiration, before he went on to graduate from the Scottsdale Culinary Institute.  He worked alongside celebrity chef Michelle Bernstein and then rose through the ranks to become sous chef for Chef Clay Conley.  In Chicago Mark was appointed as executive chef for the first time, working at the prestigious Quince Restaurant.

A one year hiatus travelling and working in Australia was followed by two appointments in Dubai.  Mark worked first at the ocean front Nasimi Restaurant at the iconic Atlantis the Palm, before joining Hunters, at The Westin Mina Seyahi.

With a wealth of experience to call on, but with curiosity about local ingredients and cooking habits beckoning, Mark immersed himself in the culture of kitchens and markets throughout Bangkok.  He then got down to the business of creating, with the results providing an intriguing blend of international and local flavours that give riverside diners the chance to sample something that little bit different.

Chief Operations Officer Sasikarn "Ae" Apichartvorasilp at Tudari

Tudari has been spicing up the fourth floor of Siam Paragon lately, with a selection of steamy aromatic offerings straight from the kitchens of Korea.  The casual dining concept brings some of the most famous dishes of Korea to Bangkok with prices that are affordable to all.

Chief Operations Officer Sasikarn “Ae” Apichartvorasilp explains: “Tudari is the most prominent restaurant chain in Korea, with more than 2,000 outlets.  There are also hundreds more in China and Vietnam, so we are excited to bring this well proven formula to Thailand, where we know people will love the spicy tastes.”

You can find the Tudari slogan “Happy Together” in three locations in Bangkok.  Siam Paragon is the flagship store, but there are two other outlets, on the seventh floor of CentralWorld, and on the ground floor of Central Ladprao.  A fourth store is close to completion.

Original Korean dishes that are proving popular include Seafood Topokki with Cheese Melt, Dolsot Bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables, pork and Korean chilli sauce served in a hot stone bowl) and Bacon Wrapped Winter Mushroom Rolls.
